Under 11 Softball tournament at Olton 17 August 2008
Played 3 won 1 lost 2.
An enjoyable afternoons cricket for our under 11's in a new softball tournament. We only won one game but we beat the eventual winners of our group- Dorridge. After a slow start in our first game we learnt that a mixture of tip and run and hard hitting would bring us runs. We held most of our catches and found that the straighter we bowled the more wickets we took !
Leading run scorer Rosscot 33- with 6 fours
Highest scorer Pardeep 21 v Dorridge
Most wickets Mohammad Aslam 4
Highest partnership 26 v Dorridge Pardeep 21 and Sam Ryland 4 *
Well done to all the under 11's who played and Sam and Shaun from the under 10's as well.
Thanks to Fran and Shokat for helping out with scoring and umpiring.
NOTE: Solihull Municipal won the tornament - and Kings Heath were the only team to beat them!!!
Monday 21st July U13 League Kings Heath vs Harborne (Home)
Kings Heath 114/1 in 20 overs (Sean Brown 39*, Tom Salliss 28*, Josh Baker 21)
Harborne 114/5 in 20 overs (Callum Williamson 50*)
Kings Heath won on fewer wickets lost
This was a cracking game played in a good spirit. It was exciting all the way through and with Harborne needing two runs to win off the last ball it could have gone either way. They only managed to get one run so the game was won by Kings Heath, by merit of fewer wickets lost.

Monday 23rd June
Bournville 84 for 8 off 20 overs
Kings Heath 75 for 7 off 20 overs
Bournville win by 9 runs
Bournville won the toss and decided to bat first on a bright, sunny
evening. Bournville started steadily although they found early runs hard
to come by due to some fine bowling from Josh Hunt-Stewart and Jack
Wadelin. Good bowling from Louie Turpie and Rashurd Ali also kept the
pressure on the batsmen but two good partnerships in the Bournville middle
order forced their total up to 84 for 8 after 20 overs. Josh Hunt-Stewart
(1 - 3), Louie Turpie (1 - 5) and Rashurd Ali (2 - 12) were the pick of the
Kings Heath bowlers.
In reply, Kings Heaths openers Josh Baker, who played some fine shots, and
Tom Salliss, made a steady start reaching 32 after 10 overs. This should
have been a solid platform to build on but once the first wicket fell, Josh
Baker (13), Kings Heath started to wobble. Sean Brown (4) came and went
quickly as did Louie Turpie (1) and Rashurd Ali who was out without
troubling the scorers. When Tom Salliss (14) was caught the runs started
to dry up and Kings Heath started to fall behind the run rate. Despite a
good late effort from Sultan Afzal (16), Will Hughes (4) and Elliot Clarke
(6) Kings Heath fell 10 runs short of victory after their 20 overs and
suffered their first league defeat of the season.
Rashurd Ali 3ovs 2 wickets for 12 runs
Josh Hunt-Stewart 4ovs 1 wicket for 3 runs
Louie Turpie 4ovs 1 wicket for 5 runs
Jack Wadelin 3ovs 1 wicket for 11 runs
Sean Brown 4ovs 1 wicket for 20 runs

Sunday 1st June at Kings Heath
Old Edwardians 43 all out off 18.3 overs
Kings Heath 46 for 0 off 8.3 overs
Kings Heath win by 10 wickets
Kings Heath won the toss and decided to put Old Edwardians into bat. Old Eds started well and reached 20 off 5 overs for the the first wicket, Jack Wadelin making the breakthrough. Good tight bowling saw wickets falling at regular intervals and this combined with excellent fielding made runs hard to come by for the Old Eds batsmen. Sultan Afzal took 3 wickets and Jack Wadelin and John Roper took 2 apiece. Sean Brown, Louie Turpie and Tom Salliss also took a wicket each and they were backed up by Josh Hunt-Stewart, Rashurd Ali and Elliot Clarke who all bowled well.
In reply, Kings Heaths openers, Josh Hunt-Stewart (10) and Tom Salliss (17) made light work of reaching the total required, scoring 46 off 8.3 overs with little trouble. Old Eds bowlers helped the cause by contributing 19 extras.
U13 Cup
Sunday 18th May at Walmley
Walmley 115 for 5 off 20 overs
Kings Heath 16 all out off 15.5 overs
Walmley win by 99 runs
The first round of the cup brought an away game against a very strong Walmley side boasting 3 county players and 5 district boys. Kings Heath won the toss and decided to bowl first on a green wicket still damp from the previous days rain. Some good bowling from both Josh Hunt-Stewart and
Louie Turpie saw them both take a wicket in the 1st and 2nd overs but Walmley's big guns soon started to score runs. Sean Brown then came into the attack and took 2 wickets to slow Walmley down a bit and Sultan Afzal also took a wicket towards the end. Apart from a couple of lapses of
concentration, the work in the field was good again and Walmley finished with a score of 115 for 5.
Unfortunately, Walmley's strong bowling attack proved to be too strong for our batsmen and a succession of ducks followed leaving the score looking very sick. Only Tom Salliss hung around for any length of time, batting 13 overs for his 1 run. Tim Groves remained unbeaten with 3 from 4 overs and our other scorers were Wadelin , 2, and Afzal, 1. Unfortunately, 'Extras' top scored for Kings Heath with 9. Kings Heath were finally bowled out for 16
Sean Brown 3 ovs 2 wickets for 9 runs.
Josh Hunt-Stewart 3 ovs 1 wicket for 9 runs
Louie Turpie 2ovs 1 wicket for 3 runs
Sultan Afzal 3ovs 1 wicket for 13 runs
Unlucky boys. Well done to Walmley and good luck in the next round.
U13 League
Wednesday May 14th at Kings Heath
Kings Heath 104 for 2 off 20 overs
Moseley Ashfield 103 for 7 off 20 overs
Kings Heath win by one run
Kings Heath won the toss and decided to bat first on a sunny evening. A good opening partnership between Tom Salliss and Josh Hunt-Stewart put on 46 for the first wicket before Josh was bowled for 13. Sean Brown came in and immediately set about the Ashfield bowling with 3 quick boundaries.
Runs continued to come until Tom was eventually caught at square leg for 31. Will Hughes then came in and continued the good work and finished on 11 not out. Sean Brown was unbeaten on 27.
In reply, Ashfield lost a wicket in the first over and then another in the second over but they recovered from those set backs and looked comfortable at one stage at 62 - 2 after 11 overs. Some fine bowling from David Malcolm, backed up by Josh Hunt-Stewart and Sean Brown, finally made
inroads into the Ashfield middle order. Excellent work in the field by all the Kings Heath boys, including a fine one handed diving catch down to his left by Tom, ensured that Ashfield had to work hard for their runs. This was an exciting match and could have gone either way right up until the
last ball. Ashfield needed 11 to win off the last over and despite the pressure, Jack Wadelin bowled a good line and length. The Ashfield batsmen however played some nice shots, including one boundary, which left them needing 3 to win off the last ball. Jack kept his nerve and bowled a good
ball which only brought Ashfield a single. Kings Heath won by one run
David Malcolm 4 overs, 3 wickets for 11 runs
Josh Hunt-Stewart 3 overs, 2 wickets for 12 runs
Sean Brown 3 overs, 2 wickets for 12 runs
Well done to both teams for an excellent game of cricket.
U 15 Cup
Wednesday May 7th at Kings Heath
Attock 79 for 9 off 20 overs
Kings Heath 80 for 1 off 14 overs
Attock won the toss and decided to bat first on a bright dry evening with a fast outfield at Kings Heath. A strong opening Attock partnership between Zuman (13) and Salim (18) saw 38 scored off 6 overs before the first wicket fell. Kings Heath’s second and third wave bowlers then took a grip on the game with runs drying up and wickets falling regularly. Turvey (2 wickets for 6 runs off 3 overs) and Basford (3 wickets for 10 off 2 overs) in particular returned good figures. Crocker took 3 good catches in the covers.
In reply Kings Heath moved quickly to 52 before Smith was run out for 19. Payne and White continued to score reasonably freely and reached the required total in the 14th over without further loss with Payne 22 not out and White 12 not out.
