Here are all the match reports from games played this season.
Result from Saturday 5 July Sat 3rd XI
Aston Unity 228- 9 Sam Crocker 3-10, Waqas 3-70
KHCC 178- 4 Olly O’Brien 35*, Waqas Ali 34, Gregg Arrand 31*
Aston Unity Winning Draw
Chasing another large score our batsmen did well to reach our highest league score of the season. A solid opening stand of 62 between Waqas 34 and Graham 19, quietened the oppositions constant chirping and chatting. A quick 22 from Josh and an unbroken 5th wicket partnership of 58 between Olly and Gregg, with Olly making 35 not out (the first player to pass 200 runs for the 3rds this season) and Gregg 31 not out cemented the draw. It was getting very dark when Gregg hit the last ball of the game for six to secure us a fourth batting point.
Their score was probably more than it should have been - our fielding generally was not up to our usual standard with Stuart taking a good catch at long off. Waqas and Sam both took three wickets but even George struggled to stem the flow of runs against a team of unorthodox batters.
Again some promising performances from the team as whole. Thanks to Adam for playing at very short notice.
Sat 3rd XI Saturday 28 June vs KenilworthKenilworth 222- 9 Nick Turvey 2-13
KHCC 132 Graham Arrand 40 , Sam Crocker 23, Wahid 21*
KHCC lost by 90 runs
Our 3rd Xl side with 10 teenagers including 3 under 15's came up against a rampant Kenilworth team who beat top of the table Olton the week before.
We started off well with Nick taking 2 early wickets. Unfortunately his back went into spasm and he had leave the field. Our young attack struggled to contain the runs although Adam Badger took a wicket with his first ball for the 3rds, and Sam Crocker bowled well with one wicket for 12 in six overs.
We lost some early wickets but it was encouraging to see Sam showing great skill in scoring 23 and putting on 38 for the 3rd wicket with Graham 40. The 4 th wicket put on 33 with Ashley, 9, showing patience and technique. However, the highlight was Wahid hitting 3 fours and a massive 6 in his 21 not out . We lost 6 wickets to their spinners which means we need nmore practice against spin bowling.
Some encouraging performances to build on at any rate . Nick's on the mend but will need a couple of weeks break to rest his back
KHCC 3rds v Four Oaks Saints
KHCC 102 all out in 39 overs (George Greaves 30)
Four Oak Saints 62 all out in 31 overs (George Greaves 6 for 9, Millard 3-24)
KHCC won by 40 runs
I still can 't believe we played, let alone won by 40 runs after being bowled out for 102 in a game reduced to 39 overs per side.
We were put in and our young team - only 2 over 21's, struggled against some fast accurate bowling( their opening bowler taking 7 -22 in 15overs). At 17 - 4 we had still had a lot to do and we only reached 102 thanks a 5th wicket partnership of 44 between George 30 and Amit 17, not forgetting a last wicket partnership of 18 in 10 overs, to take us over the psychological 100 mark . Stuart played sensibly and straight for a 9 not out in 11 overs .
We bowled tightly but with out much luck and at 30-2 it was time for a bit of experience and magic. George "I just bowl straight" Greaves took 6 for 9 in 11 overs and together with Stuart 3 - 24 and Wahid 1-12 Four Oaks lost 8 wickets for 32 runs. A comfortable victory in the end. We only bowled 2 wides this week with a slippery ball - well done this week to the bowlers.
The fielding practice at nets ( thanks to Dave Monk) and before the game paid dividends as we caught almost everything that went in the air.... and they didn't.
Thanks to everyone who played on a really drizzly and damp day, and to the opposition, Jon and Bernie for making a game of it,
Thanks also to Josh for preparing the teas.
KHCC 3rds v Weoley Hill
Weoley Hill 134 all out in 43 overs
Gregg 3 -14, Boundary 3 -31,
KHCC 136-6 in 35 overs
Gregg 28, Adnan 26 *, Wahid 26 *, Olly 22
KHCC won by 4 wickets
Our first win of the season and well deserved- especially with only 3 players over 21 this week.
We bowled them out for 134 in 43 overs with Kasim making a guest appearance and taking 3-31 , Wahid bowled well for his 2 - 18 in 8 overs. Gregg took 3 - 14 in 5 overs, and Adnan chipped in with 2 -24. Disappointingly we bowled 24 wides, an area we need to improve on in the nets.
We held some good catches in particlaur Dave Salliss's diving catch in the covers. Waqas bowled well on his debut for the 3rds .
The batting was solid and we looked to be cruising it as Gregg and Olly put on 45 in 8 overs. Unfortunately we then suffered a batting collapse loosing 4 wickets for 10 runs and at 89-6 we still had a lot to do to win the game. However, Adnan, together with Wahid put on an unbroken partnership of 47 in 12 overs to win the game. Wahid hiiting the winning runs with his 5 th four. A very comfortable win in the end.
